Who needs Al-Anon?

AL-ANON’S PURPOSE: To help families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with someone whose drinking is a problem. Similarly, Alateen is our recovery program for young people. Alateen groups are sponsored by Al-Anon members.

What is detachment with love?

Detachment with love means caring enough about others to allow them to learn from their mistakes. It also means being responsible for our own welfare and making decisions without ulterior motives-the desire to control others. Ultimately we are powerless to control others anyway.

Is Al-Anon run by professionals?

Professionals or A.A. members can initiate the formation of an Al‑Anon/ Alateen group. However, after the group has started, members operate the group. Professional and A.A. participation should be limited to open meetings.

Is Alanon a non profit organization?

Tax-exempt status was granted to Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc., our World Service Office, in 1956 under Sec. 501 (c) (3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code as a nonprofit corporation organized and operated for educational purposes.
