What is the difference between SJ and so cord?
The insulation thickness is the main difference, with the extra hard service “SO” cables requiring thicker insulation to accommodate for higher voltage ratings, while the SJO constructions require thinner insulation with their lower voltage rating.
What is SJ cable used for?
Our SJ cable is a junior service power cable suitable for use as a power supply cable for small tools and appliances. The SJ cable is not water, oil, and solvent resistant.
What is Type SO cord?
Our SO cord is a multi-conductor service cord that is manufactured for the purpose of electrical power connections that require flexibility. Common applications include wiring for industrial machinery, enormous appliances, heavy-duty tools, motors, and temporary electrical power and lighting for construction sites.
What does SJO wire mean?
junior service
Our SJO cord is a junior service, oil-resistant portable cord. This cable is strong with a stranded core and is able to repel oil-laden surroundings. An SJO cord is flexible since its core consists of stranded conductors, but it only has a 300V rating.
Is SJ cord outdoor rated?
SJO Type SJ, but rated oil resistant. SJOW-A Type SJO, but rated for outdoor use at -30° F.
Is so cable outdoor rated?
Constructed of color-coded synthetic oil, ozone and water resistant rubber (EPDM) insulation and an oil resistant thermoset chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) jacket, SOOW is rated for indoor/outdoor use. SOOW flexible rubber cords carry a 600 volt rating.
Can SJ cord be buried?
UF cable is used for direct burial. “SOOW” cord is not rated for direct burial on the exterior insulation.
What does SJ cord stand for?
Hard Service
SJ – Hard Service. Also called a “Junior Jacket,” this cable is rated for 300V service. Just like it sounds, the outer jacket of the cable is oil resistant. OO – The addition of the extra “O” means that the outer jacket and the insulation are both oil resistant. W – Weather and Water Resistant.
Is so cord sun resistant?
SOOW is incredibly durable. Its thermoset rubber jacket makes the cord weather resistant, and the jacket hardens under a direct application of heat, which allows the cord to be unaffected by aging, abrasion, water, sunlight and ozone. Oil-resistant insulation and jacketing lend to the cord’s durability as well.
Can so cord be run in conduit?
Use of SOOW cable in a conduit is a violation of the National Electrical Code Article 400.8. SOOW is rated “damp” and outdoor “wet” locations.
