What is QT prolongation drugs?
The prolongation of the QTc interval by these drugs is usually seen within several days of starting them. The class Ia antiarrhythmic drugs (quinidine, procainamide) and class III drugs (sotalol, amiodarone) prolong the repolarisation phase of the cardiac action potential.
What antibiotics do not prolong QT interval?
Solithromycin, a ketolide/macrolide antibiotic, has recently been reported to be free of the expected QT-prolonging effect of macrolides.
Does amlodipine prolong QT interval?
Despite similar BP-lowering effects, the direct renin inhibitor aliskiren, but not the calcium channel blocker (CCB) amlodipine, decreased the duration of the QT interval in these patients. Therefore, pharmacotherapies with similar effects on hypertension will not exert identical effects on cardiac repolarization.
Does Zofran prolong QT?
ECG changes including QT interval prolongation have been observed in patients receiving ondansetron. In addition, Torsade de Pointes, an abnormal, potentially fatal, heart rhythm, has been reported in some patients receiving ondansetron. The use of a single 32 mg intravenous dose of ondansetron should be avoided.
Which antibiotics cause QT prolongation?
Antimicrobials that are associated with QT prolongation include the macrolides/ketolides, certain fluoroquinolones and antimalarials, pentamidine, and the azole antifungals.
Does ciprofloxacin cause QT prolongation?
Ciprofloxacin may cause QTc prolongation and rarely torsades de pointes. This effect is of particular concern in patients with predisposing factors, such as concomitant medications or underlying heart disease reflecting decreased repolarization reserve.
Does Lasix cause QT prolongation?
Most of the QT prolongation associated with metolazone and furosemide, but not spironolactone, remained after adjustment for potassium and calcium. Proton pump inhibitors were not associated with QT prolongation.
Does Zofran prolong QTc?
The new information does not change any of the recommended oral dosing regimens for ondansetron, including the single oral dose of 24 mg for chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting. The new information also does not change the recommended lower dose intravenous dosing to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting.
