Never one to be labeled stagnant, our Child Welfare agency in New Jersey, formerly known as the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS), will now be known as the Department of Children Protection and Permanency (DCPP).

What happens when DYFS comes to your house?
By calling you and scheduling an in home visit, DYFS is merely doing their job, investigating the complaint and the true safety of the child. They’ll have a look around your house to make sure everything’s in order (clean, you have food, nothing to endanger the child) first.
Can you sue DYFS?
Only in very limited circumstances can a parent sue DYFS for it’s often ill-conceived interference in family life. In fact, DYFS caseworkers are often given immunity. Only when conduct is performed outside the scope of their broad job duties may an employee be subject to penalties.
Can a parent share a bedroom with a child NJ?
Children, other than infants, shall not share the same bedroom with an adult. 7. A child shall not sleep on the same bed or crib that another child has occupied unless the bed linen is changed.
