What is a satin rat?
Satin rats are distinguished by their curled/wavy whiskers, darker/deeper looking color, and shinier/finer/longer coats. Standards that have straight whiskers that stick out from the head. As the coat comes in, the Satins will be darker/deeper in color compared to their same color siblings.
How long does a satin rat live?
Healthy fancy rats typically live 2 to 3 years.
What is a velveteen rat?
Description: Velveteen is a coat, that is a rexoid type. It is less curly than rex with a more wavy appearance. As babies, they look like little lambs but sadly as they grow it softens out quite a bit. Velveteen is also quite a soft coat. Not as soft as Silvermane but still much softer than standard.
What is a Harley rat?
Harley in the rat world is a long haired variety. The original ‘Harley’ as she was named, was discovered in 2002. She promptly gave birth to a litter of babies and it was presumed she had been impregnated by a sibling prior to being purchased. She gave birth to 5 babies, 4 of them inherited her long coat.
What are rex rats?
Also referred to as “Sphinx” or “nude” rats, these bald cuties come in a variety of breeds, including the Double Rex rat. The Double Rex is the most common type of hairless rat. Completely hairless, these adorable critters have short, curly whiskers and may come with small patches of fur on their ankles or face.
Do rats need to be in pairs?
Rats are very social, and should be kept in pairs at a minimum. A pair of females is recommended for first-time caretakers. Males can do well together if introduced when young. Females are more accepting of new friends later in life.
How many babies do rats have?
The usual litter size is 8 to 18 pups. Baby rats are born deaf and blind. The cage should be kept in a quiet place and the litter should not be disturbed for at least 7 days after birth, especially if this is the female’s first litter.
What is a Tonkinese rat?
Siamese Sable is also sometimes called Tonkinese. These are not to be confused with the Sable Siamese which is a variety found in South Africa. It is a dominant gene on the C Locus. They have ruby eyes like Siamese but can have black eyes with the Black Eyed (BE) gene.
Are Harley rats aggressive?
Harley’s have a few main issues that are known to their lines, including aggression, lactation issues and skin issues. Much like a naked rat, this will help their skin stay moisturized and strong when they are young.
