What is Cuben fiber made of?
Dyneema Composite Fabric (DCF), also known as Cuben Fiber (CTF3), is a high-performance non-woven composite material used in high-strength, low-weight applications. It is constructed from a thin sheet of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE, “Dyneema”) laminated between two sheets of polyester.
Is Cuben Fiber worth it?
Because Cuben has poor resistance to abrasion and puncture. For its weight, it’s pretty good, but for my uses I would never buy a pack made only of Cuben, even the heaviest version of it — it would get trashed by a few bushwhacks or rough bumps against granite.
How long will Dyneema last?
Dyneema slings should be retired five years after purchase even if they were rarely used. Since quickdraws are not knotted, they can be used a few years longer.
Is Cuben Fiber durable?
Cuben fiber is not as durable as some other materials used in the construction of backpacking gear. In backpacking lighter often means less durable which is generally true for cuben fiber as well. A cuben fiber backpack will probably hold for 2000 miles (e.g, a thru-hike) but not much more.
Are dry bags any good?

Does Dyneema get dirty?
The high end Dyneema really attracts stains badly – grass, spilled coffee, etc. Other than that, it is a superb fabric.

What is a roll top dry bag used for?
