What is a Demosaicing algorithm?
A demosaicing (also de-mosaicing, demosaicking or debayering) algorithm is a digital image process used to reconstruct a full color image from the incomplete color samples output from an image sensor overlaid with a color filter array (CFA). It is also known as CFA interpolation or color reconstruction.
What does DeBayer mean?
The DeBayer filter is used to convert raw image data into an RGB image. In a raw color image, every pixel represents a value for one basic color, instead of three as is the case for an RGB image. In order to get a real color image, the two missing colors have to be interpolated. This is exactly what this filter does.
How does Debayering work?
Debayering is the process in which viewable images can be made from RAW image files. Debayering interpolates this color data throughout the image to smooth out colors in the image.
Why are Demosaiced images darker?
The results are dark because each of the pixels has a value in only one channel. The other two channels are zero. The demoasicing process will spread values from nearby pixels, so those values will no longer be zero.
What type of artifacts can you get from Demosaicing?
There are four visible artifacts: excessive blurring, grid effect, water color, and false color. Actually, blurring is not directly an artifact related to aliasing.
