What is MCAS test for?
MCAS is a standardized test that has been existence since 1993. The test is designed to meet the expectations of the 1993 Education Reform Law. MCAS tests are taken by all Massachusetts public school students. Testing aims to measure student’s ability based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework learning standards.
How much does MCAS cost?
The total contract cost of $150.8 million over five years for the next-generation MCAS is “consistent with prior state assessments at about $30 million” annually, according to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which said a combination of state and federal funds will be used to cover the costs.
Is MCAS mandatory for 2021?
No. State law says the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education must give tests to all students. But state law does not say every student must take those tests and it does not provide for any penalties to students who refuse, or their parents.
Is there MCAS in 9th grade?
Grade 9 – Districts will have the option of administering the Biology MCAS is February 2021 for grade 9 students only. Grade 11– Due to school closures in 2020, English Language Arts and Mathematics MCAS were not administered. Grade 11 students are expected to take the MCAS in January or May 2021.
