What does Baguazhang focus on?
Baguazhang is an internal martial art (neijia) and an internal energy building method (neigung), where the emphasis is on the development of chi/qi. Circle walking while holding static postures is also an effective meditation method.
How many forms are there in Bagua?
There are two types of bagua: the Early Heaven Sequence and the Later Heaven Sequence (see below). Both types have been developed before the ‘Book of Changes’, the I Ching, which describes the cosmology and philosophy of ancient China.

The creation of Baguazhang as a formalized martial art, is attributed to Dong Haichuan (董海川), who is said to have learned from Taoist and Buddhist masters in the mountains of rural China during the early 19th century.
How big should a bagua circle be?
All forms of Baguazhang utilize circle walking as an integral part of training. Practitioners walk around the edge of the circle in various low stances, facing the center, and periodically change direction as they execute forms. For a beginner, the circle is six to twelve feet in diameter.
Why is it called 8 trigrams?
Due to their tripartite structure, they are often referred to as Eight Trigrams in English. The trigrams are related to Taiji philosophy, Taijiquan and the Wuxing, or “five elements”.
Where do you hang a bagua mirror?
