The Official Trustee in Bankruptcy, a body corporate created under the Bankruptcy Act, administers bankruptcies and other personal insolvency arrangements when a private trustee or other administrator is not appointed.
What is the role of an Official Receiver?
An Official Receiver is employed by the Insolvency Service and is a civil servant of the court to act in cases of compulsory liquidation and bankruptcy. The Official Receiver (OR) plays a key role in compulsory liquidations, where a creditor obtains a winding up order from the court.
