What controls the operation of the injector?
The amount of fuel supplied to the engine is determined by the amount of time the fuel injector stays open. This is called the pulse width, and it is controlled by the ECU. The injectors are mounted in the intake manifold so that they spray fuel directly at the intake valves.
How are the injection system classified?
TYPES OF INJECTION SYSTEMS There are basically two types of injection systems: Air injection system and solid injection system. Air Injection System: In this system, fuel is forced into the cylinder by means of compressed air. This system is little used nowadays, because it requires a bulky multi-stage air compressor.
What is SFI fuel system?
Basically, a SFI (sequential fuel injection) system has a fuel injector for each cylinder. Each of these injectors puts fuel into the system at 30-40 PSI before the intake valve. This system was way more fuel efficient and created way more power than the carburation systems it replaced.
What is MFI fuel system?
Most modern vehicles have multi-port fuel injection (MFI) with a separate fuel injector for each cylinder. This system mixes the fuel and air together right in the intake port for eachengine cylinder just ahead of the intake valve.
What is air and airless injection?
It is the injection of atomized fuel oil into the combustion chamber of a diesel engine under the pressure of the liquid fuel itself. In this system, the liquid fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber without the aid of compressed air. Hence, it is called airless mechanical injection system.
What can damage fuel injectors?
Fuel injectors will fail when debris (water, dirt particles, etc.) or rust find their way into the system and, after time, plug up the nozzle, the armature, or the nozzle needle gets stuck. To prevent debris from getting into the system, we recommend doing everything you can to help keep your fuel system clean.
