What are the contraindications of buscopan?
4.3 CONTRAINDICATIONS BUSCOPAN and BUSCOPAN FORTE are contraindicated in myasthenia gravis, mechanical stenosis in the gastrointestinal tract, paralytical or obstructive ileus, megacolon and in patients who have demonstrated prior hypersensitivity to hyoscine butylbromide or any other component of the products.

Can you take Buscopan while breastfeeding?
Buscopan and breastfeeding Buscopan is not usually recommended while breastfeeding. However, some people may still need it. It’s better to only take occasional doses or only take it for a short time. It’s not known how much Buscopan gets into breast milk, but it’s likely to be a small amount.
Is Buscopan syrup safe for infants?
Buscopan® Syrup can be used in infants and children for relief from stomach cramps and infant colic. Buscopan® Syrup contains ‘hyoscine butylbromide’, an antispasmodic, used in the treatment of conditions associated with abdominal spasm (‘cramps’).
Can hyoscine cause drowsiness?
Hyoscine can make you sleepy, and if you are using the patches, you may still feel sleepy the following day. If this happens, do not drive and do not use tools or machines until you feel well again. Also, avoid drinking alcohol, as this will increase the feelings of sleepiness.
Is hyoscine hydrobromide a sedating?
Note that Hyoscine Hydrobromide can cause excessive sedation.
How is hyoscine administered?
Hyoscine hydrobromide is rapidly absorbed after intramuscular or subcutaneous administration. It is reported to cross the placenta, and also crosses the blood brain barrier. After intramuscular administration, the onset of action is approximately 30 minutes and the duration of action is approximately 4 hours.
Is hyoscine given IM or IV?
Adult: As hyoscine hydrobromide: 0.2 mg as a single dose via IM or SC inj (may also be given via IV inj if required).
Is hyoscine safe for breastfeeding?
As a precautionary measure Buscopan is not recommended during pregnancy. There is insufficient information on the excretion of hyoscine butylbromide and its metabolites in human milk. A risk to the breastfeeding child cannot be excluded. Use of Buscopan during breastfeeding is not recommended.
