Can you swim in Rincon de la Vieja?
This trail is steep in areas and involves crossing small creeks/rivers. Swimming is not permitted in the waterfall. *The Rincon de la Vieja Crater Trail is currently closed.
Is Rincon de la Vieja worth it?
While historically this trail has been the more popular of the two because of its’ sparkly blue waters (it’s been dubbed the “blue lagoon” of Rincon de la Vieja), unfortunately, you can no longer swim here! It’s still a beautiful hike and an incredible waterfall, and still very worth the trek in our opinion!

While we have touched on the fact that there are many adventure activities in the Rincon de la Vieja area, we highly recommend visiting the Las Pailas section of the park.

Yes, you can swim in the La Fortuna waterfall. However, the water is cold! And the current is super strong where the water falls into the pool, so make sure to stay by the rocks (like the people in the photo). Do not swim further out into the pool closer to the cascade.
