Can you hang a curtain rod from the ceiling?
If you plan to use adhesive hooks installed directly on the ceiling to hang your curtains, it is important that the ceiling surface is smooth and is not unevenly textured. Remove the curtain rods and place the curtains onto the rods. Place your rods back onto the ceiling hooks and you’ve got ceiling curtains.
What is a traversing rod?
Traverse rods have clips or eyes that move along a track embedded in a slot in the rod. The eyes have a small opening for the curtain pins and they’ll run evenly across the rod, with the number of eyes dependent on how long the rod is. A cord runs through the rod, too, and is attached to a master slide or pulley.
Should my curtains go to the ceiling?
The higher the curtain rod, the taller the window will appear, so fix your curtain rod closer to the ceiling than the top of your window, if you can. One rule of thumb is that they should sit 4-6 inches above the window frame.
How many inches from the ceiling should a curtain rod be hung?
No matter what the ceiling height, the minimum distance from the top of the window casing to the curtain rod is two inches. To create the illusion of height, mount the drapery rods close to the ceiling. This is particularly important to do if the room has low ceilings. Use these same rules when the windows are arched.
Are there studs in the ceiling?
You find studs in the walls and joists in the floors and ceilings. However, they are very similar, and you can use a stud finder to locate a joist. Ceiling joists are always the same distance apart. The spacing will be either 16-inches or 24, and it will be the same everywhere in your home.
When should you hang curtains from the ceiling?
It is often best to use the 4 to 6 inches above the window trim rule here unless the windows stretch close to the high ceilings. If there is little space between the trim and the ceiling, then hang the curtains from the ceiling.
