Are Easton FMJ good for hunting?
When it comes deer hunting arrows, Easton Archery falls into that best-of-class category. Specifically, the FMJ line of arrows has been so impressive that it’s really hard for me to delineate vast difference in performance (on deer). They fly straight, hit hard and penetrate deeply.
Are FMJ arrows worth it?
The advantage of the FMJ over just aluminum is the core is still carbon, which is more stable and damps better, allowing the arrow to recover more quickly out of the bow. I like them better than all carbon for the added weight, no carbon ‘blow up’, and they are way easier to pull out of targets.

Why is Easton FMJ?
The Easton FMJ has some of the advantages of both aluminum and carbon. Specifically, they are very straight since you can straighten aluminum (and not carbon) and they have a good weight for whitetail hunting. Also, being small in diameter (5 mm), they penetrate very well.
What are the Easton FMJ arrows made of?
If you are not familiar with the FMJ (Full Metal Jacket), it is a shaft that is made specifically for bowhunters who want maximum penetration on game. The arrow consists of a high-strength carbon core that’s wrapped with 7075 aerospace aluminum. The carbon core gives it strength, stability and added penetration power.
What is a hit insert?
A HIT insert gives you straighter Broadhead alignment because the shank of the Broadhead is aligned with the shaft and not the insert, and despite what others say, it is a stronger system.
How do you calculate Arrow weight?
Front of Center
- Divide the arrow’s length (distance from the bottom of the nock groove to the shaft’s end) by 2.
- Find the balance point.
- Subtract the center of the arrow measurement (calculated in Step 1) from the balance point (calculated in Step 2).
- Multiply Step 3’s answer by 100.

What is an Easton FMJ Arrow?
In an effort to provide bow hunters the highest level of lethal hunting results, Easton has united carbon and aluminum materials into one arrow—the FMJ or Full Metal Jacket. The FMJ arrow combines a full metal jacket over an ultra-micro diameter carbon core that results in the most advanced penetrating arrow ever available to bowhunters.
What are the disadvantages of Easton FMJ against Axis?
The biggest problem of Easton FMJ against Axis is the possibility of bending. Even most of the cases where arrows bend originates by people’s fault, many archers/hunters switched over to Axis since the probability of FMJ’s bending. Axis is one of the best carbon arrows with its little straightness tolerance.
How do I measure for Easton half out inserts?
Measure approximately 1-3/8″ long. Half Out Inserts extend approximately 1/2″ from the arrow shaft. Easton Half Out 5MM Inserts are available in 25 grain aluminum or 75 grain steel, and in #1 and #2 models. Please specify. See the chart below for which models fit which shafts.
What makes Easton so special?
Easton is the only company (because of their patents) that can put the insert entirely inside the shaft and thus make those small diameter shafts very streamlined. Even though this seems like a minor factor, it feels better to me to have the insert completely inside the shaft.
